Post Commons is known as Alton’s ‘Living Room,’ hosting ethically sourced coffee and a brunch cafe. This unique historic building is quickly gaining a reputation as a premier events space whether you are hosting a business party, bridal shower, wake, corporate meetings or large scale wedding event. Having just been awarded the top three historic renovation sites by St Louis Business Journal, Post Commons can provide an overall capacity of 515 people. Each of our three main event spaces flow beautifully together for larger events, or you can rent our three event spaces individually with capacities of 110, 150, or 200.
The Historic Building.
Built in 1909, as a United States Post Office, Post Commons is almost exactly as it was. The exterior is an epic stone facade with large flowing staircases with black metal accents. It is perched atop Altons theater district with one of Alton’s best river views. Once inside you’ll enter the original 25 foot high ceiling lobby with terrazzo flooring, beautiful glass windows, original postal windows and mail slots filled with fine wine and whiskey still remains.
Inside the main coffee room is a beautiful 40 foot steel bar that works fantastic for food and buffet display. Adjacent to the coffee bar is our quaint, period full whiskey bar that is perfect for large or small events. We can supply any alcohol you desire and our bar staff are some of the best mixologists in the area if cocktails are preferable.
Once through the main coffee room, you’ll come into the Ryan Room with a cool jazz stage, black grand piano and water bar.
Beyond that, through the large black barn doors, is our premier Hallie Room with barnwood wall, turn of the century Engish bar and soft banquet or party lighting.
For Weddings we also offer two side rooms for bride and groom set up space. The old Post Master room sports steel floors and epic views of the city and the river and our downstairs bridal sweet and parlor bathroom allows for 15 people to work together in preparations for the big day.
Whether you are renting the entire building as your own private playground or just using one of our unique spaces, Post Commons will be a venue that everyone will be impressed with.
Wedding Receptions Venue
For Wedding Receptions or full wedding events, our entire building flows together between the Large Hallie Room and the adjacent Ryan room. Most choose to have the barn wood wall serve as the backdrop for the main event and the stage and dance area of the Ryan Room make a beautiful pass through area to the whiskey bar. With two rooms for the wedding party to get ready, and built in beauty of the river view, downtown view, epic front exterior stairs or multiple historic backdrops inside the building, you’ll be able to capture amazing images to remember this special day.
We can provide eclectic mismatched wood tables and chairs or 100 black event chairs that fold out and can be arranged to fit you needs.

Our largest “Hallie Room” seats 200 and showcases a huge, beautiful reclaimed wood wall as well as a turn of the century English bar. The room can open to the Ryan room (capacity 110) or you can close the massive 12 foot high sliding black door system to provide privacy from the rest of the building. This room has three lighting options including soft string lights to unique edison bulb reclaimed metal banquet lights. This room looks fantastic with opulent black accents or softer, more rustic white or cream accents and any color looks great against the large wood wall. This is one of our regions most acclaimed event spaces.
